New Editor: Polyphony Meets China

We are pleased to welcome a new member of the team: Xiao Ge has joined as Guest Editor for the Polyphony Meets China (PMC) project.

Xiao Ge

Xiao is a researcher whose work sits at the intersection of political economy, feminist cultural studies, and medical humanities. She holds a PhD in Women’s Studies from the University of York, where her thesis interrogated Eurocentric, biomedical, and individualised models of health by reframing postpartum well-being as a culturally situated practice of self-care, negotiation, and embodied resistance.

She is a Bridging Fellow in the Narrative Practices Lab at the Institute for Medical Humanities and Guest Editor at The Polyphony for the “Polyphony Meets China” initiative. During her Fellowship, Xiao is developing research collaborations in reproductive health, care labour, and healing, while expanding partnerships between the Institute for Medical Humanities at Durham and Peking University, as well as piloting creative methods in community-based health wellbeing research.

As her work challenges dominant individualist philosophies of health and well-being, Xiao is keen to commission articles that foreground decolonial or anti-colonial ethics of care. She is particularly interested in contributions that explore collective rituals or practices of healing, feminist approaches to care labour, as well as creative methodologies and activism that disrupt normative health narratives.

If you want to work with Xiao on a contribution to The Polyphony, please contact her via our Team page.
