We are delighted to announce the publication of a new brochure – MedHums 101: What is Medical Humanities?
Medical humanities is growing in scope, scholarly breadth and positive global impact.
Our brochure will introduce you to some of the core ideas and ways of working central to the ‘critical medical humanities’, welcoming you to a field of research that includes diverse perspectives from academia, people with lived experience, healthcare and public health. It is part of the ‘MedHums 101’ series, led by Associate Editor Aly Fixter.
Aly said: “This brochure is based around 10 statements about key approaches and concepts in the critical medical humanities, hopefully acting as an accessible starting point for conversations about the current state of the field and its future.
“As someone who came to the medical humanities primarily via lived experience, I’ve been passionate about making its insights available to more people since I learned of the field (through The Polyphony) while working on an MA exploring creative writing as chronic illness research. I hope this brochure – as part of the ‘MedHums 101’ series – will help bring in new researchers and contributors from other sectors and disciplines. It has been a huge pleasure to work on it with the talented team at The Polyphony and Durham’s Institute for Medical Humanities.”
